Episode #21 - "Late Night"
Aoi Notes: 03/11/2005
Have you ever had a DVD go bad on you? I can't say that I have...until now. Back when I was working on some images for Animefringe, I went to take a few screen caps of The Ring and found that it wouldn't load past the main menu. I took it out and noticed that the disc wasn't scratched at all and the label was intact, but rather one third of the bottom foil was a different color. The only thing that I can think of is that the disc oxidized due to some manufacturing error, but since I bought it back in 2003, I'm pretty much stuck with it.
Lucky for me, DreamWorks just put out a new 2 disc set of The Ring that comes with a new disc entitled "Rings: The Circle of Fear is Growing" and a movie ticket to see The Ring Two all for less than the price I paid for the original single DVD. Not a bad deal at all and the Rings short film is pretty cool to watch. It supposedly bridges the gap between the two American remakes by showing how the tape has gained a drug-like addictive quality and has even brought up an entire Internet community posting movies of the various crazy things that happen on each of the seven days.
I've tried to sway away from straight talking about news headlines like some other blogs, but here's an interesting otaku tidbit that I found too interesting to not point out...did you know Osamu Tezuka died the same year that CLAMP made their professional debut? I came across a review of the CLAMP art exhibition going on in Japan that connected those dots for me. It's one of those things that you never really realize unless you sit down and compare dates, but that does make it seem, as the article says, "he was passing the torch to a new generation of artists."
Anyway, I woke up today around 4 O'clock after going to bed at 5:30 this morning. I got up and watched last night's Alias and then got right to work on wrapping up the final three episodes (ep. 28-30) of the very story arc we're in the middle of. If you think you've seen some crazy stuff so far, then you ain't seen nothin' yet!
That's it for now. I'll catch you in the forum and then back here on Monday as we see Elle take this panty caper to a whole new extreme!
